Puzzle 14: The Symbol Stones

Puzzle Walkthrough

The clan at Back Right did not finish first or last, so Back Right’s time is either 14 or 17.

The Leaf puzzle finished exactly 2 minutes after Emberclaw’s puzzle. With the available times 12, 14, 17, and 19, this two-minute gap can only be 12→14 or 17→19. So Emberclaw’s time is either 12 (with Leaf at 14) or 17 (with Leaf at 19).

The Wave puzzle was not at Front Right.

The Sun puzzle finished earlier than the Leaf puzzle, but it was not the fastest overall. If Leaf were 14, the Sun would have to be earlier than 14 but not the fastest; the only earlier time is 12, which is the fastest. That is impossible. Therefore Leaf must be 19 and Emberclaw must be 17.

Skyshade’s finish time was not 19, so Skyshade did not solve the Leaf puzzle.

The Flame puzzle took longer than the one at Back Left but less time than the one that finished in 19 minutes. Since 19 is Leaf, this tells us Back Left finished earlier than Flame, and Flame finished earlier than Leaf.

Ironvale’s table was directly behind the clan that solved the Wave puzzle. “Directly behind” means Back Left is behind Front Left, and Back Right is behind Front Right. Because Wave is not at Front Right, Wave must be at Front Left, which forces Ironvale to be at Back Left.

The Front Left table finished exactly 2 minutes before the Sun puzzle. Since Front Left is Wave, Sun’s time is exactly two minutes after Wave’s time.

Now place the times. The two-minute step between Front Left and Sun, combined with the overall set of {12, 14, 17, 19}, forces Front Left to be 12 and Sun to be 14. We already have Leaf at 19 and Emberclaw at 17, so the remaining symbol Flame must be the one at 17.

Use the Back Left and Flame relation. Back Left must be earlier than Flame, and Flame is 17. Back Left cannot be 12 (that belongs to Front Left), so Back Left must be 14. That means Ironvale at Back Left has time 14 and therefore solved the Sun puzzle.

Return to Back Right’s restriction. Back Right cannot be first or last, so its time must be 17. That means Back Right is the Flame puzzle. Since Emberclaw’s time is 17, Emberclaw must be the clan at Back Right, solving Flame at 17.

This leaves Front Right for the remaining symbol and time, which is Leaf at 19. The only clan not yet placed besides Ironvale and Emberclaw is either Skyshade or Tidalspire at each Front position. Skyshade’s time cannot be 19, so Skyshade cannot be Front Right. Therefore Skyshade must be at Front Left with Wave at 12, and Tidalspire must be at Front Right with Leaf at 19.

All clues now align: Wave at Front Left with Ironvale directly behind at Back Left, the two-minute gap from Front Left to Sun, Leaf two minutes after Emberclaw, Flame between Back Left and 19, Skyshade not 19, and Back Right neither first nor last.
